I'm gonna rate this marvelous read a solid 7 jellybeans out of 10. Not too picky. It was definitely intriguing and kept me on my toes. Like Berty Bott's Every Flavor Beans!

Her whole world has taken a tumble for the worst. Meet Mary Iris Malone (a.k.a. Mim). At her youthful age of 16, most girls are out shopping, getting their nails, hair, or whatever done, searching google, reading, or grumbling about homework. Not Mim. She's on a journey to find her sick mother in Cleveland from the drab "wasteland" or Mississippi. Unfortunately, luck is not on her side. The trip takes several arbitrary turns that nearly raze Mim's hope of seeing her mother again and leaving behind the doldrums her heart will never be settled in. Mosquitoland takes Mim to hell, but it's whether or not she can fight her demons and embrace her "Reasons" that will decide if she can get back at all.

Mosquitoland portrays the sweetest little idea and burns it just enough that it's still cute but with way more intrigue. I LOVE IT. There are just so many people and problems that Mim has to face to reach her destination that its a little frightening to think of bus trips anymore. And I probably won't be trusting a lawyer again. But aside from that, Mosquitoland touches on a lot of real world problems. Included are divorce, mental issues, foster parents, down syndrome, bullying, and a lot of other problems.

I personally loved this book with all of its imperfections. However, Mosquitoland is not for the faint of heart. I'd recommend this book for all people ages 11 and up and realistic fans. Or if you're looking to build your realistic book collection and book knowledge, definitely take a try. It's a very well-written, thought-provoking, inspiring read.

Formula: Illnesses + Divorce + Realism + Sassy 16-year-old = Grayhound Bus Ride
